The History of Pinewood

Pinewood was settled in the 1850's by John Beaty who came from Ireland in 1848. He purchased a parcel of land, some 450 acres in Kororoit Creek and later purchased a further 700 acres.

This was developed primarily into a Dorset Stud until 2002 when Brian Glassel bought the property and subsequently changed it to a Dohne Stud.

Dohne Investments Pty Ltd is renowned for producing top quality sheep and along with the change of ownership it was decided to go to a dual purpose sheep which gave a much better return giving both fat lambs and fine wool.

The current Homestead was built in 1870 out of bluestone and over the past 130 years has had 5 separate additions to where it now stands. The stables, shearer's quarters and shearing shed still remain in their original condition with dry stone walls around a large percentage of the property.
