WHAT DOHNES OFFER
The Dohne breed is known for its adaptability to various types of feed from lot feeding to green pastures and coping well in dry conditions.
A important factor for the success of the Dohne is its adaptation to a wide variety of climates and food and this is why it is doing so well in Australian conditions. Dohne have been developed as a versatile, hardy dual-purpose breed, which have adapted well to a large number of regions in Australia.
We have experienced lambing percentages of more than 150%; high fertility of 110% to 150% is common. The lambs grow at a rapid rate of up to 350gm a day until the lambs are weaned, making the Dohne Merino an efficient meat producer. At 4 to 6 months of age slaughter lambs are achieving a marketing weight of at least 40kg.
Mature ewes will grow to between 55 to 75kg depending on the environment. It is possible in two years for the Dohne Merino to produce three lamb drops as it is not a seasonal breeder. The Dohne ewes have a high milk production and good maternal instinct.
Dohne Investments P/L wool results in 2009 produced between 4 to 6 Kilograms of high quality fine wool of 14 to 20 microns.
